Interview with Amandine Canata - Sponsored Artist of the Month
Magnum Tattoo Supplies' Sponsored Artist of the Month for June 2022 is the fabulous Amandine Canata!
What drew you to Magnum Tattoo Supplies?
I naturally heard about Magnum Tattoo Supplies through Hammersmith Tattoo, the shop I work with! My favourite products are definitely the Envy Gen2 cartridges.
How long have you been tattooing and how did you get started?
I started my apprenticeship during summer 2018! Before that I lived in Paris and was selling custom drawings and painting. I always loved tattoos, so my best friend pushed me to give it a go and I immediately loved it!
What is your favourite thing about your job as a tattoo artist?
My favourite thing is sharing my client's excitement and joy of their new tattoo at the end of the session. Having a good, memorable time with the person is what really matters, alongside the tattoo of course! I also love drawing and discussing designs with my clients, it always pushes my creativity further.
What is something you wish you knew before you became a tattoo artist?
I wish I knew about the amount of stress and anxiety this lifestyle can put on you sometimes. If you really care about your work, you always want to give it your best and push it to the next level. On a daily basis, this can be very draining.
What is your proudest moment so far professionally?
I always considered myself an antisocial person so I am really proud to see the connection I build with my clients over our session. It seems to come more naturally than anticipated. Many of my clients become regulars and some even become friends!
What do you love to tattoo and what would you like to do more of?
I love doing flowers and animals! I am doing snakes really often and I enjoy it more and more every time. I would like to do more freehand floral designs as it gives me lots of freedom. Most of my work looks serious but I also love funny tattoos and wish I could do more of them.
What are your hobbies and passions outside of tattooing?
I love painting (watercolour and oils). Music and movies are a big part of my life too. Watching sci-fi or horror movies is probably my favourite unwinding activity! Visiting antique markets is also a big passion of mine!
What are your ambitions for the future?
I just hope to be able to tattoo and grow as an artist as long as I can! I will continue to guest spot, ideally in studios in France too. Tattooing in my little hometown, enjoying the work, friends and family at the same time would be fantastic!
