Choosing the right Tattoo Aftercare for you and your clients

RSS

Choosing the right tattoo aftercare can be a bit of a challenge.  There are so many different brands out there each claiming to be the best in the business, so how do you decide which product to recommend or sell on to your customers?  Opinions on the best product to use will vary from artist to artist, so it's difficult to know which one to go for.  Whether you're a tattoo artist or a tattoo customer, choosing the right aftercare is essential.

The aftercare process is extremely important. Tattoos are effectively a medical procedure which causes trauma to the skin, so your body is left vulnerable to scarring and infections if sufficient aftercare isn’t administered.

In standard tattooing procedure, the skin is wiped clean once the tattoo is finished, and a thin layer of petroleum jelly is applied over the completed tattoo.  The area is then covered with clingfilm (or some type of wrap or bandage) to prevent bacteria from getting to the would and to stop it bleeding onto clothes.  It's normally advisable to keep the dressing on for a few hours, then remove it and clean it with lukewarm water and fragrance free soap. After this the area should be patted dry with a clean towel.  It’s generally not until the day after a tattoo that some kind of tattoo aftercare lotion or cream will need to be applied.

If you’re unsure on which aftercare product is the right one for you and your clients, then why not check out the list of some of the brilliant aftercare products below?  All products are available individually, and in studio packs so you can either sell them on to customers, or give them a recommendation on what to use!

Tattoo Goo

Tattoo Goo is our best selling aftercare product and comes in a variety of forms, including Tattoo Goo Salve, Goo Soap, and Lotion. The Goo Salve tends to be the most popular product, and is created from a blend of natural ingredients such as beeswax, cocoa butter and olive oil.  It’s not too heavy on the skin, and smells great, keeping your new tattoo moisturised and nourished, healing it beautifully.

Fade The Itch

From the experts at the Cambridge Clinic, Fade the Itch is the only tattoo aftercare serum that uses patented dry heal technology to heal and protect new tattoos. The serum’s dermatologically tested active ingredients cover the area with a dry antibacterial shield which speeds up the healing process and reduces irritation. Although the shield is dry, it looks in moisture and hydrates the skin, and the best thing about this product is that it stops your tattoo from leaking on to your clothes and bed sheets, which can be one of the most annoying things about a new tattoo, so we absolutely love this product!

YAYO Guard
YAYO Guard is a brand new protective tattoo healing film which acts as a second skin to provide a barrier between your new tattoo and outside germs and bacteria. The film covers the tattoo with a waterproof coating that locks in your bodies natural healing fluids. It’s 100% vegan, which is a must for a lot of people.  It’s currently only available in a 10 metre roll, so is only really ideal for tattoo artists to use on their clients, or for those who undergo regular tattoo sessions.

Dermalize Pro

Dermalize Protective Tattoo Film is the all-in-one tattoo aftercare solution for the initial healing stage of a tattoo, and is a very similar product to YAYO Guard. It provides a “second skin” that acts as a barrier to protect the tattoo wound from germs and bacteria and at the same time, is permeable allowing the skin to “breathe”, locking in the bodies natural enzymes and healing it from the inside.  It’s not only available as a 10 metre roll, but in packs of 5 single 15cmx10cm sheets.

YAYO Familia:

From the makers of YAYO Guard protective film, the YAYO aftercare range features some lovely tattoo ointments that are kind to the skin and help to heal tattoos perfectly. Some tattoo aftercare lotions can smell quite clinical, but the YAYO aftercare range presents some gorgeous smelling ointments, such as lemongrass, and other fresh flavours.  If the smell of the aftercare lotion is a big deal to you, then we’d definitely recommend opting for YAYO products.

The Aftercare Company:

Tattoo Aftercare from the Aftercare Company is rich in vitamins A, D and E which support healthy skin. The emollients it contains hydrate and moisture the skin whilst the essential fatty and linoleic acids nourish and soothe the area.  maximising the benefits of using this triple action aftercare. It's 100% natural and cruelty free, and is a really popular aftercare option for our customers.

With plenty of different aftercare products out there, you really will be spoilt for choice when deciding which one to use, and to stock up on for your clients, but hopefully this list will help you make your mind up!  Our team are always here to advise you if you're stuck.  Make sure you head over to our online store for all of your aftercare needs.
